Slips, Trips and Falls
Whilst they may seem, on the surface, fairly trivial incidents, slips and trips are, in fact, amongst the most common causes of injury. Whilst you may assume that it’s easy to pick yourself up, dust yourself down and walk away from a trip or a fall, the truth is that, on many occasions, a fall, leading to an awkward or heavy landing can lead to serious long term personal injury. This injury could take the form of a sprain, twisted muscles or tendons, a fracture or severe bruising. In the event of an injury of this type, it could be that you have to take a prolonged period away from work, thereby suffering a loss in earnings, whilst any fall which damages the skull or spine is likely to have serious ongoing repercussions for the health and life quality of the victim.
If you’ve suffered injuries following a fall, and feel that you may be able to make a claim for personal injury then get in touch with us on 0800 567 7144 and we’ll go over the details of your case. In order to make a successful claim it has to be demonstrated that the responsibility for your fall lies with another party. It’s often the case that trips and falls which lead to personal injury take place in the workplace, and may be caused by factors such as:
- Untidy litter and waste products.
- Loose cables.
- Damaged flooring.
If this is what has happened in the case of your slip, trip or fall then your employer is responsible through their negligence, having failed to fulfil a duty of care to their staff. In cases such as this you are well within your rights to pursue a claim for compensation. Our expert injury lawyers will advise you as to what exactly this entails, and what your rights are in respect of employment, putting your mind at rest with regards to any worries you may have. It is against the law, for example, for any employer to dismiss or treat unfairly a member of staff who makes a compensation claim against them.
Trips and falls can take place anywhere, however; perhaps you’ve fallen in a public place such as a shopping centre or supermarket, or tripped over a piece of poorly maintained pavement. In cases such as these, if your fall was caused by another party’s negligence, then you may be able to make a personal injury claim. It could be that you slipped in something spilled on a shop floor which hadn’t been cleared up, or that the floor had been mopped, but no ‘wet floor’ sign put out. Perhaps you were walking outside and caught your foot on a badly jutting paving stone which ought to have been repaired. In all of these cases, and any similar, you have suffered injury as a result of someone not taking proper care and therefore they, not you, should have to pay for your suffering.
In the event of a slip or trip make a careful note of exactly what happened and, if possible, photograph the circumstances. The more information you bring to us, the stronger the case we’ll be able to build and with our help you’ll be back on your feet in no time.
